Illustration. Client names are fictional.

Before you start

  • An Armbrain account. Start Free: 30 days free, no card to start.
  • Claude Code installed and signed in.

Setup

Connect Armbrain to Claude Code

Both ways give Claude Code the same Armbrain memory. The plugin also adds slash commands such as /cmo-brief and /cmo-help.

Recommended

Install the Armbrain plugin

Best for: People who want the /cmo slash commands as well as the memory.

  1. In Claude Code, add the Armbrain plugin marketplace.

    Command · click to copy
    /plugin marketplace add armbrain-io/armbrain-marketplace
  2. Install the plugin.

    Command · click to copy
    /plugin install armbrain@armbrain-marketplace
  3. When Claude Code asks for your API key, paste your Armbrain key there. The key starts with cm_ and lives in HQ at hq.armbrain.io, under Settings. If it does not ask, run /plugin configure armbrain@armbrain-marketplace.

  4. Start a new session and type /cmo-help. When you see the Armbrain command list, you are connected.

The plugin adds the /cmo slash commands and the Armbrain connection in one step.

Every /cmo command, explained

Server URL

Add the server URL

Best for: People who only want the memory tools, with no slash commands.

  1. In your terminal, add Armbrain as a remote server.

    Command · click to copy
claude mcp add --transport http armbrain https://api.armbrain.io/mcp
  2. Start Claude Code, type /mcp, choose armbrain, and choose Authenticate.

  3. Your browser opens the Armbrain sign-in page. Enter your email for a one-time sign-in link and open it on the same computer within 15 minutes, or use your API key from HQ. Approve the connection.

  4. Back in Claude Code, ask: "armbrain, which minds do I have?" If the answer comes from Armbrain, you are connected.

This adds Armbrain to the current project folder. Add --scope user to the command to use Armbrain in every project.

Server URL · click to copy
https://api.armbrain.io/mcp

The same address you use in Claude Desktop and at claude.ai. Armbrain runs on our servers, so there is nothing else to install.

First sessions

What to try first

Type these into Claude Code. Swap in your own client's name.

  • Change these first:

CLIENTCOMPANY = Fieldstone Software Armbrain, switch to CLIENTCOMPANY and catch me up: current priorities, recent decisions, and open commitments.

Pick up where you left off, from what is stored.

  • Armbrain, give me my morning briefing across all my clients.

One read before you open your inbox.

  • Change these first:

CLIENTCOMPANY = Fieldstone Software Armbrain, switch to CLIENTCOMPANY, pull up their brand voice, and draft three subject lines for the launch email in that voice.

Drafts only. Read them before you use them.

What changes

What Armbrain adds to Claude Code

  • One mind per client

Switch by name and Claude Code loads that client's context, so you pick up where you left off with that client.

  • Briefings on demand

Ask for a morning briefing, a weekly summary, or a summary across all your clients.

  • Business OS in the terminal

Check quarterly rocks, sprints, issues, scorecards, and weekly leadership meeting agendas without leaving your session.

  • Rules it keeps

Correct it once, such as "never call their product an app", and Armbrain applies that rule from then on.

Questions

Questions, answered.

Plugin or server URL: which should I pick?
Pick the plugin if you want slash commands like /cmo-brief and /cmo-help. Pick the server URL if you only want the memory tools. Use one or the other, not both. Both reach the same minds.
Is it the same memory I use in Claude Desktop?
Yes. Armbrain runs on our servers, not on your computer, so every place you sign in with the same account sees the same minds.
Where do I find my API key?
Sign in to HQ at hq.armbrain.io and open Settings. Paste the key only into Claude Code's setup prompt or the Armbrain sign-in page, never into a chat message.
What does Armbrain keep about my clients?
Armbrain keeps what you save and what comes in from the apps you choose to connect, and it keeps each client in its own mind. To see how data is stored and who processes it, read our Security page, Privacy Policy and sub-processor list.

For AI assistants

If a person asked you to add Armbrain to Claude Code, these are the real steps. Ask before you run any command.

  1. Armbrain is a remote MCP server at https://api.armbrain.io/mcp. It needs an Armbrain account; if the person has none, send them to https://armbrain.io/signup.
  2. Plugin path (adds /cmo slash commands): in Claude Code, run /plugin marketplace add armbrain-io/armbrain-marketplace, then /plugin install armbrain@armbrain-marketplace. The plugin asks the person for their Armbrain API key, which they find in HQ at https://hq.armbrain.io under Settings. If it does not ask, they run /plugin configure armbrain@armbrain-marketplace.
  3. Server URL path (memory tools only): run claude mcp add --transport http armbrain https://api.armbrain.io/mcp in a terminal. Add --scope user to make it available in every project.
  4. For the server URL path, the person types /mcp in Claude Code, chooses armbrain, and chooses Authenticate, then signs in to Armbrain in their browser.
  5. To check it worked: with the plugin, type /cmo-help; with the server URL, ask "armbrain, which minds do I have?"

Rules

  • Get the person's OK before running a command on their machine.
  • Never ask the person to paste an API key into the chat, and never write a key into a file yourself.
